This week we watch grandma get charged on the mound and consider the suddenness and fragility that define our lives.
One thing you missed this weekend
This is why I love the internet. Aside from the misinformation and troll dragging, creativity blossoms in the most unlikely of places. These two independent clips blend together to paint a hilarious scene that we all wish we could actually see play out in real life. Good luck, grandma.
This week we saw a man’s life flash before his eyes and in a singular moment, everything changed. Life is funny because it’s so easy to view our friends, ourselves, and the people we look up to, solely in their current, static states. Forgetting the countless failures, victories, stories, and tender moments that morphed us into who we are in present day. A human life is unimaginably short in comparison to the size and age of our perceived universe, but the deep richness it holds, the influence and importance behind the impact we have on others, make our lives so very long and meaningful. And in the blink of an eye, it can be gone.
I do not care if you’re lured by the spell of red rose’s scent or consoled by the bluejay’s sultry siren song, our lives are more important than the banter between two sides of an aisle. Too precious to be reduced so low. Cherish your roles as fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters, because in the blink of an eye, all of a sudden, change comes.
One thing to think about this week
What moments in your life do you mark as pivotal? How did you persevere in light of hardship, and what doors opened that led you to new life?
Our own mortality and the fragility that encompass our every action are to thank for meaning at all. Eternal beings know nothing of loss and fear little of dark times because there’s always the opportunity to reset and re-try. The moments that define our lives, for better or for worse, tell our story. But it’s not the events themselves that define us, it’s how we learn, grow, and carry on.
This week I encourage you to look back on your life and consider your own growth, your own ability to navigate hard times, and what it was that got you through. Was it faith in God, honor and duty to your family, or a fire deep inside that pushed you to emerge stronger than ever? What you end up finding at the end of that road is what is worth sharing and passing on. What wisdom will you impart to your loved ones?
